G. melas
Also known as Atlantic Pilot Whale or Black Roundhead Whale, it is one of the two species in the Pilot Whale genus. Intermittent distribution in temperate and near polar regions of the northern and southern hemispheres. Long limbed pilot whales are a group of organisms that prefer to live in cold saltwater areas between 13-30 ℃. Diving depths range from 30-1800 meters, with significant variations, typically only active in the 30-60 meter water layer, and can last for several minutes. On June 16, 2017, in the Faroe Islands, a former Danish colony in Northern Europe, locals collectively hunted giant whales by the seaside, causing the seawater to be "dyed" red. According to statistics, the Faroe Islands slaughter over 950 giant whales annually, producing more than 500 tons of whale meat and blubber.
